![]() Civil & Human RightsWe are fortunate to live in a country where our specific freedoms are protected by multiple bodies of law and a strong historical precedent. Our civil rights are outlined in by the United States Constitution and its Amendments. They include the freedoms to speak, publish, assemble, vote, bear arms and, if necessary, be tried by a jury of peers and to face one’s accuser. They include the freedoms from unreasonable search and seizures, involuntary servitude and discrimination. These rights, or privileges, are enforced by the government and by society as a whole. In cases where such privileges are violated, there is cause for injury and a case may be brought against the person or institution that attempted to deprive one of his or her rights. If you have been deprived of the ability to perform any of the functions mentioned above, or if you have been subjected to discrimination in the work place or in public, you need to take action immediately. There are short and strict statutes of limitations, or time limits, that commence when the injury is sustained and end when you are no longer eligible to file suit. |
